Advocacy PATHs: September 29, 2017

What would your department do with more research funding? Groups like FASEB organize the steady push needed to increase Federal funding. Check out their latest resources to advocate for research funding and tune your message with FASEB’s state-by-state funding stats to personalize your advocacy. One video features APC members, including President Tris Parslow, advocating on Capitol Hill!

Didn’t attend the 2017 APC annual meeting? You missed a great Advocacy Primer moderated by Committee Chair John Tomaszewski on pathology’s unique value in healthcare economics! It’s not too late to hear ALL thematic keynotes and plenary talks. Access to recorded content is now available through the All Access Pass for non-registrants (discounted until 10/31/17) or free for meeting registrants!

No doubt you’ve heard, pathology did not fare well with USMGs in the 2017 residency match. There is a silver lining – an increase in international graduates matching in pathology – and plans to address the leading causes of USMG disinterest through new initiatives in student travel and pathology curricula. For two, read quotes from the first class of Society of ’67 Scholars, funded by member contributions, and explore the Pathology Competencies for Medical Education below!

The Pathology Competencies for Medical Education (PCME) are now online and indexed in PubMed! The PCME are tools developed by APC members to enhance pathology’s voice and standardize pathology learning objectives in all medical schools. Join the upcoming webinar for more information on how the PCME are used and how your students and faculty can achieve scholarship in Academic Pathology - a peer-reviewed, open access and indexed journal - by writing education cases to support the PCME.
