Committees
Active Chair discussion on issues of common interest occurs primarily through APC's committee activities. All Chairs are invited to participate in any of APC's committees (listed below). If you are a Chair who is interested in joining one of the committees listed below, please submit your written request to the APC office at [email protected]

Affinity Groups
The Practice & Management Committee, Leadership Development & Diversity Committee and Research Committee have established affinity groups to address important needs relevant to academic pathology departments. Registration for the 2023 Pathology Leadership Academy (PLA), July 15-16, 2023 in person at the Swissôtel in Chicago, Illinois is now open! Join fellow aspiring leaders in academic pathology for an exciting professional development opportunity, which starts with a thought-provoking dinner session on Saturday, July 15th, accompanied by networking time with peers and mentors. The program continues throughout the day on Sunday, July 16th with a focus on professional development topics. This program is included for APLF program participants. 2023 PLA program information and registration details are posted on the APC website at: www.apcprods.org/pla.

APC 2023

The APC Annual Meeting returns in-person to the beautiful Swissôtel in Chicago, Illinois on July 16-19, 2023 (Sun-Wed)! As in 2022, the APC Annual Meeting will be hosted in a hybrid format, with in-person sessions and events that incorporate remote attendees and speakers via Zoom. APC plans to offer Continuing Medical Education credits for a subset of the educational content presented at the 2023 Annual Meeting, for both live discussion sessions and pre-recorded presentations.

APC Section Councils and Committees are hard at work developing exceptional and timely educational content for the 2023 APC Annual Meeting. Preliminary Program details are now posted! A sampling of emerging session topics include:

APC HONORS SOCIETY OF '67 AWARDEES

Congratulations to the 2023 Kinney Scholars!
The Society of ’67 Thomas D. Kinney Scholars Program, now in its 7th year, provides an opportunity for medical students and pathology residents to familiarize themselves with career opportunities in academic pathology and the critical role of pathology in healthcare delivery, research, and education. From the program’s largest applicant pool to-date, the following group of Scholars were chosen to attend the APC 2023 Annual Meeting to learn and be mentored by national leaders in academic pathology. Please welcome the 2023 Scholars!

PDAS Fellows receive an immersive experience on management of departmental missions, learn about models and strategies in administrative operations for pathology and laboratory medicine stakeholders, and interact with our community of academic pathology administrators bringing a network of professional support and resources. George Michalopoulos, MD, PhD, retires as Chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh. Liron Pantanowitz, MD, MHA, PhD, is appointed as the new Chair, effective May 1, 2023.

PHYSICIAN SCIENTIST TRAINING PROGRAMS IN PATHOLOGY

In 2021, APC collected data on Physician-Scientist Training Programs in Pathology, which is maintained on APC's website and is mirrored on AAMC's website to raise awareness and attract medical students to Pathology for PSTP training. We are receiving an increased number of inquiries from students and are seeking to update the PSTP program information and ensure all existing programs are listed. If your PSTP program information is not listed, please complete the new Google form at:  www.apcprods.org/PSTP-Pathology

ADVOCACY ACTIONS

APC Council Signs on to the Medical & Public Health Laboratory Workforce Coalition Letter to Congress
APC joined 24 other professional societies and organizations representing approximately 350,000 essential laboratory professionals and pathologists responsible for patient care and public health in signing on to a letter asking Congress to recognize our urgent workforce issues and include laboratory professionals in policy and legislative solutions that address other healthcare workforce shortages. The letter urges Congress to include laboratory professionals in all Federal workforce programs and to focus on visa issues impacting the ability to hire qualified foreign candidates. APC remains dedicated to advancing academic pathology departments and participating in efforts that support our priorities. See
