Residency Application Resources
PRODS Council would like to announce some updates for the upcoming 2025-2026 Pathology Recruitment Cycle:
Program Signals
Pathology as a specialty will continue to have 5 signals per applicant for the 2025-2026 match cycle.
- This decision was based on feedback from PRODS Members – thank you to everyone who completed the survey sent last August, 2024, which had over 80% program response rate, and over 80% of respondents were in favor of applicants continuing to have 5 signals.
Residency Interview Timeline
Residency Program Interview Offer Release Date: Pathology will use an initial interview offer release date of Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, at 4pm EST.
- This decision was also based on feedback from PRODS – thank you to everyone who completed the survey sent in December 2024.
- There was strong support nationally for an initial residency interview offer date, and over 80% of respondents were in favor of this specific date.
- Here are some frequently asked questions related to this program:
- Participation by programs is voluntary, not mandatory.
- Participating programs should wait until the October 15th release date to offer any initial interviews.
- This does NOT mean that your program must offer ALL interviews on this date; rather, it is just the FIRST date to offer interviews.
- Programs can continue to offer additional interviews at any time after this date, on a rolling basis or whatever works best for their program.
- Programs may have special tracks (ie. Physician scientist program) that choose not to participate in the unified offer release, while the main track does participate
- This initiative is to allow programs sufficient time to perform holistic review of ERAS applications, without pressure that desirable applicants have already been scheduled at other programs, and to significantly reduce applicant stress in the application process.
- Please note, this is NOT for fellowship programs, only residency programs in the setting of the NRMP match for PGY1 positions.
- PRODS Council is recommending a Wednesday 4pm EST initial interview offer release date next year, to provide programs more time to schedule interviews, to give better clarity for students/applicants on when interview offers will arrive (and at the END of a workday for students), and to provide equitable timing for West Coast and Mountain Time programs to release interview offers
PRODS Council encourages all residency Program Directors to do the following:
- Determine if your program will voluntarily participate in this program (or if a track within your program will participate).
- Complete the form linked further below, indicating whether your program is participating in the unified interview offer release date.
- AAPath/PRODS Council will host a list that will be voluntarily generated and validated by the residency Program Director of programs participating or not participating, as a resource for applicants and their advisors.
- Only one response per program is needed!
- Program Directors should update their program website or other recruitment materials to indicate if their program is participating in this unified interview offer release date.
Please note that this is for RESIDENCY program interview offers only. This is NOT intended for FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS.
