AAPath 2026 Annual Meeting CME Program
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The AAPath 2026 Annual Meeting is an “other/blended” learning activity (live course and enduring material) that provides educational activities designed to provide training and professional development for academic pathologists.
TARGET AUDIENCE: The live session presentations and discussions, and recordings of most of the live sessions, provide educational activities for four target audiences:
- Chairs, Vice Chairs, and former Chairs (Senior Fellows) of academic departments of pathology and laboratory medicine;
- Program Directors and Associate Program Directors of pathology residency training programs;
- Pathology faculty educators for medical students; and
- Other faculty members and trainees (fellows, residents, and medical students) aspiring to these faculty and/or leadership positions.
The target audience include physicians/physician-scientists (MD, DO, PhD) and others who serve as the medical, scientific, and administrative leaders of academic departments of pathology and laboratory medicine in the United States and Canada.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: The objective of the learning activity is to facilitate knowledge acquisition to enable departments to fulfill their missions in clinical service, teaching, and research. Content focuses on issues in three broad areas that address educational needs in knowledge, competency, and performance:
- ADMINISTRATION/LEADERSHIP FOR PATHOLOGY PRACTICE: Developing and refining leadership skills for the practice and management of successfully administering and advocating for an academic pathology department to meet the demands of the three departmental missions within an academic health system: practice, medical education, and research.
- EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES: Faculty development and enhancing medical education content are valued and prioritized to develop both the pedagogy and knowledge for the identified gaps in the continuum from undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education for both domestic and international trainees and practicing pathologists.
- INNOVATIVE DISCOVERIES: Strategies to sustain a department include addressing (a) the laboratory workforce with evolving technology and novel research programs and collaborations, (b) the training and development of trainees, faculty, and staff in today’s employment market, and (c) how to adapt to new regulatory and financial environments for academic laboratories.
ACCREDITATION STATEMENT FOR CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME): This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of American Society of Cytopathology (ASC) and the Association for Academic Pathology (AAPath). The ASC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT: The ASC/AAPath designates this other/blended (live and recorded) educational activity for a maximum of 39.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
