Important Updates from the APC

Application Deadline Today, 3/31/2023

The Association of Pathology Chairs is delighted to share the launch of the new Academy of Distinguished Pathology Educators and is seeking applications for the founding members of the Academy.

This new Academy will recognize and assemble the most accomplished pathology educators who will work closely and collaboratively with the education committees of the APC, and with PRODS and UMEDS to:

  • Support and advance excellence in pathology pedagogy.
  • Support scholarship and innovation in pathology education and training.
  • Grow educational leaders from pathology who will serve within their home institutions as well as within national organizations.

Inspired by the American College of Surgeons’ Academy of Master Surgical Educators and the University of Texas’ Shine Academy, the APC Academy of Distinguished Pathology Educators is more than just an honorific society. Elected members will be active contributors to APC’s educational mission and will advance, support and extend the activities of the APC’s UME and GME committees, PRODS and UMEDS. Academy members will:

  • Serve as thought-leaders who identify and shape emerging trends in pathology education and training.
  • Foster innovation and collaboration.
  • Support faculty development in pathology education, including national recognition of pathology educators through mentorship and sponsorship.
  • Bring visibility to the critical importance of education and training in pathology and laboratory medicine to all healthcare professionals.
  • Inspire future pathology educators through the recognition and contribution of the most accomplished educators in pathology.

Apply by March 31, 2023, to be considered for this group of founding members! Additional information and application details can be found on the APC website at:

The new APC DEI Faculty Leaders Network, which reports to APC’s LD&D Committee, virtually convened with representatives from nearly 40 departments on March 10th. Participants indicated the need for such a network to share experiences, programs, and educational resources that address DEI through the lens of academic pathology departments. Currently, a subgroup of volunteers is developing a brief survey to help identify potential topics of interest and presenters, to determine the frequency of meetings, and to elicit other needs of this new Faculty Leader Network affinity group. Please note that only Chair members can appoint appropriate faculty member(s) to this group. For more information and to add your departmental DEI Faculty Leader to the Network, please go to the APC website at:
