APC'S PATHOLOGY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY RETURNS!

Registration for the January 2022 PLA is now open! Applications will be accepted until December 17, 2021 (or until sold out – currently 50% sold).

Designed to build and strengthen leadership skills and knowledge for current and future leaders in academic pathology, the January 2022 PLA will focus on managing change, resiliency, personal development for leadership, and interviewing skills. The PLA will be held January 15-16, 2022 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, AZ. Attendees may participate in person or remotely via Zoom. To maintain the small-group quality of past PLAs, overall attendance will be capped at 65 registrants. Please encourage your promising faculty to apply for the January 2022 PLA to develop their academic leadership potential! See application and program details at: https://www.apcprods.org/pla.

APC 2022 MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS

The 2022 APC membership renewal season is now underway! All current member departments and individual membership holders have been contacted with instructions on how to process your membership renewal. Please direct any inquiries to [email protected].

Why Renew?

In addition to supporting the missions of education, practice, and research through APC’s educational programming, committees, sections, and working groups, your membership dues help APC to strengthen its role in advocating for academic pathology through membership in AAMC’s Government Relations Representatives group and administration of the Intersociety Pathology Council. APC also contributes to pathology workforce development through co-management of the Intersociety Council for Pathology Information (with ASIP) and fundraising for the career development programs of APC's Society of ’67. Importantly, APC maintains membership in AAMC’s Council of Faculty and Academic Societies, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies’ Organization of Program Director Associations, and is a Cooperating Society of the American Board of Pathology.

APC has a deep interest in diversity and leadership development, and in recent years created a range of programs, including the new APC Pathology Leadership Fellows program, the annual Patricia Thomas Lecture on diversity and leadership topics, and the Pathology Leadership Academy. In 2015, APC launched its flagship open access journal, Academic Pathology that is now published by Elsevier. In 2017, APC celebrated 50 years of service with the creation of the Society of ’67 as a vehicle for supporters to contribute to the legacy and vision of academic pathology through programs like the Society of ’67 Scholars, Healthcare Innovations Grants, and Open Access Publication Awards. Updates on all of APC’s activities are provided in our annual report, Paths to Progress, and in our monthly e-News.

ICPI RESIDENCY DIRECTORY – New Opportunities to Promote Other Training Programs and Events for APC Members

In 2020, APC assumed the duties of co-managing the Intersociety Council for Pathology Information (ICPI). If your department lists a program in the ICPI Residency Directory, the fee for that listing is included as a separate line item in your APC dues invoice.

Grant Deadline Approaching!
ICPI supports awareness of the important roles played by pathologists in clinical practice and the many career opportunities available in the field of pathology through the Margaret Grimes Medical Student Interest Group Grants. Each grant provides $500 per academic year for unrestricted use in furthering medical student interest group activities. Recipients of the ICPI Medical Student Interest Group Grants also become part of a national cohort of leaders, who are invited to share best practices with each other through virtual forums organized by the ICPI Board. Visit the ICPI website for more information: https://pathologytraining.org/apply-for-msig-grant/

Interest groups that miss the October 31st application cut-off may still apply for the next round of grants, whose application deadline is February 28, 2022.

NEW THIS YEAR
Departments with ICPI Residency Directory listings may add other training programs (except fellowship programs) at NO additional charge, as long as they are based in the same department. Post-sophomore fellowships, MSTP programs, PSTP programs, PhD programs, and med tech, histotech, and cytotech training programs are all now included in the ONE price of a Residency Program listing! Plus, add Residency Program Open Houses to ICPI event listings!

Want to add programs, events, or rejoin the ICPI Residency Directory?
Contact [email protected] or submit program details, event details, or listing updates to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ICPI_Website_Update

Check out the *NEW* ICPI website, which continues to evolve and improve as a resource to students and residents!
