The Undergraduate Medical Educators Section (UMEDS) provides a forum to eligible undergraduate medical (medical school) educators in Pathology, for the exchange of information and ideas and for the participation in programs that would facilitate the continued development and enhancement of undergraduate medical education in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. UMEDS was originally called the Course Directors Section (CDS) and was formed by the Association for Academic Pathology in 2005.

Eligibility for Membership
Eligibility for Membership: The members of the UMEDS shall be educators with major organizational and planning responsibilities for the inclusion of the principles of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the curricula of medical schools of North America that are accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) which is organized under the sponsorship of the American Medical Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges. Chairs will designate one or more individuals in their Department who are recognized as leaders or directors of undergraduate medical education, to become members of UMEDS. The number of individuals submitted for membership will vary school to school depending on the format of the curriculum at each institution. Only one member may be designated by the department Chair to be a voting member. Names should be submitted by chairs to the central office and updated yearly.
Affiliate Membership: Educators responsible for the major organizational and planning responsibilities for the inclusion of principles of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the curricula of medical schools that are not members of departments of pathology or are not LCME accredited may apply to the UMEDS Council for affiliate UMEDS membership.
